GDW Security, based in Machelen, Flemish Brabant, has been active in the security industry for over 40 years, providing security services to more than 8,500 families and businesses. With the motto "Expect the unexpected," GDW Security is a logical partner for Secury360's proactive outdoor detection system.
Jan de Wilder, CCO at GDW Security, and Michael Meyers, Service Desk Officer, share their insights:
Michael: What Secury360 offers has never been seen before at GDW Security: highly accurate outdoor detection with fast integrations and smooth collaboration with Video Management Systems. To this day, we believe that no system can offer a 100% guarantee. However, Secury360 comes incredibly close. There’s simply no comparison with other outdoor detection solutions, which often trigger false alarms. We’re always on the lookout for the latest developments to stay innovative in our field. The collaboration with Secury360 enables us to contribute to the evolution of the future of outdoor detection, leveraging our experience and market knowledge.
Michael: The market is constantly evolving, so we see no reason why the market wouldn’t be ready for a solution like Secury360. This system enables proactive security, helping us prevent a lot of damage. This is very different from what’s common today, as traditional security systems often only sound alarms after damage has already been done. Personally, I’m convinced it will take up an increasingly larger role in the security market.
Jan: Security has always been reactive, with detection happening only after the premises have been breached. The entire market and training have been based on quick detection, followed by physical deterrents. Outdoor detection is sometimes recommended, but often with a major "BUT." The day we can say that proactive outdoor detection truly works, that will change everything. I personally believe this will be the turning point in the next few years for the security market.
Our market has experienced more disruptions in recent years, primarily due to ‘security as a service’ models. The market needs globalization, digitalization, and consolidation, which are making their mark in our industry. Customers' mindset in 2020 will push us toward innovations and evolution in security, and the market is now ready for certain concepts. The shift toward change can no longer be stopped. We must manage it wisely and make the right strategic choices to continue making a difference and discover the benefits, not the drawbacks.
Jan: I believe in the concept because there is a gap in the market regarding efficient outdoor detection. Over the years, various technologies and concepts have been proposed, but we consistently see that no one can offer a 100% guarantee on functionality. This results in false alarms, frustrating customers and eroding trust in the effectiveness of these systems. In the security world, trust is crucial—if you don’t trust a concept, it won’t be used, and it harms our reputation as installers.
That’s why we’ve never really showcased standard solutions in our "window," but on the other hand, the demand keeps growing. This discrepancy drives us as installers to search for the "holy grail" because once we can provide a guarantee on functionality, an entire market will open up for us across various sectors (private homes, businesses, and temporary site security). Especially in the post-COVID period, it offers a nice expansion of our offering.
Innovation is also part of our company DNA; we want to be at the forefront of new developments… as long as they work. Too often, foreign manufacturers present attractive concepts or products that, upon closer inspection, don’t deliver. Participating in this concept gave us the chance to be involved in R&D and help shape it into what it has become, based on our practical experiences and customer needs.
Jan: We share the same vision of the market and are treated as true partners across the board. There’s room for input, feedback, and discussion, which is unprecedented in our industry between an installer and a manufacturer. This allows us to move quickly when needed and maintain a short line of communication between the product and the end customer.
Michael: The ability to integrate Secury360 with any camera system to create a highly accurate outdoor detection system makes it a valuable addition to other systems. Even in uncontrolled outdoor environments, Secury360 performs well. Security professionals, who are the first to analyze the different detections, help minimize false alarms.
The mobile site security sector presents an excellent opportunity. The value of materials on construction sites has skyrocketed, with the price of bricks, for example, increasing dramatically. Yet, they remain exposed on construction sites, often without any oversight. Investing in the rental of a mobile site mast ensures the necessary security and avoids unnecessary additional costs.
Michael: It’s a pleasure working with the Secury360 team. They ask for feedback and listen to our opinions. Our suggestions are considered and usually incorporated, which makes the collaboration even more engaging!
Jan: The product is still in its early stages but has been well received. Unfortunately, many other concepts have claimed 100% accuracy in detection but failed, leading to diminished trust and market skepticism. The Secury360 concept can’t be explained in five minutes, but if someone is willing to take the time to understand it and see a working demo, the response is extremely enthusiastic. As we say here, "If you see it, you buy it."
